Is Your Website Easy To Use

In the stages of web site design, we’re going to start with a topic that is probably one of the most important aspects of web site design itself, that of navigation. Many a web site has gone to the proverbial Internet graveyard because of poor or non existent navigation, and that is no way to run a business. This article will give you some basic tips on navigation that will make your site one that people will enjoy coming to and not get lost at in the process.

The first thing you need to know, is just what navigation is. Navigation is the term used to describe how a visitor gets from one page of your site to another. Now, if you have a one page web site, this doesn’t usually apply unless you have anchor links on the page that take people to various parts of that page. Normally though, navigation applies to sites with multiple pages. The more pages you have, the more tricky navigation becomes.

Navigation needs to be looked at the way you would look at the table of contents in a book. If you were to go to any table of contents, you’d see a page number next to each chapter name. That way, you could easily jump to that chapter in order to read it. This is especially useful with technical books where you may only need the details for a specific procedure.

Well, web design is no different. Let’s say you had a site on health products and you decided that you wanted to have a main page to greet people, a page with the products you promote, another page with articles that address health related issues and finally a page for people to contact you at if they were to have any questions. Now, this is a very simple web site, but it still can easily illustrate the point.

The navigation should be simple and clear. The most common forms of navigation are either menus that go across the top of the web page or menus that go down either the right or left side. Left is usually more common that right. As to top and side, it’s pretty much split down the middle. The key, however, is that you want the navigation links to be uniform throughout the site. In other words, if you decide to go with left side navigation links for the main page, then, in the case of our example web site, you would also want the links to go down the left side for the products page, articles page and contact page. Each page should have the exact same layout and look exactly the same except for the content on the page.

The easiest way to do this is simply to create a main template that includes all your navigation and use that template for every page on your site. That way, there is no way that you can foul this up as you are simply taking the same HTML shell code and using it for each page. All you need to do is change the content.

Also, make sure that the links to each page are large enough to be seen and attractive looking. You want your navigation to look as interesting as the rest of your site.

While this is a very simple and basic example, it should be more than sufficient to provide you with a web site that people will feel comfortable coming to and not get lost at in the process.

Hope this helped

Reducing Load Time Through Image Optimization

Even though more and more Internet users switch to broadband every year, a large portion of the web’s population is still running on good old dial up connections. It is therefore unwise to count them out of the equation when you’re designing your website, and a major problem we have to make, for dial up users is the loading time of your website.

Generally, all the text on your website will be loaded in a very short time even on a dial up connection. The slow-loading sites is mainly large images on your website, and it is very important to strike a good balance between using just enough images to attract your users and not to overwhelm them by leaving your website because of the loading time of your site.

You should also go to a greater length through image optimization for every image on your site to make sure it loads in the least time possible. What I really mean is to use image editing software to remove unnecessary information on your images, and thereby effectively reducing the file size of your image without affecting its appearance.

If you own Photoshop, it will be obvious to you that when you save an image as a JPEG file, a dialog box appears and lets you choose the “quality” of the JPEG image . normally a setting of 8 to 10 is good enough as it will preserve the quality of your image while saving it at a small file size. If you do not have Photoshop, there are many free image compressors online that you can download and use to reduce your image’s file size.

On the other hand, you can opt to save your images in PNG format to get the best quality at the least file size. You can also save your images in GIF format, the image editing software clips away all the color information not used in your image, hence giving you the smallest file size possible. However, saving in GIF format will often compromise the appearance of your image, so make your choice wisely!

The point of this tip is, if you have a lot of people coming to your website, you are going to want to reducing load time for the fastest time in connection with all Internet connections, such as broadband and dial up. It is a very important point to know that your website loads up the quickest time possible, therefore not losing potential people to join your marketing because they didn’t wait around for your 30 website to load up.

So go to your website and check the load time, if it’s more than 7 seconds (That’s the proven myth on how long people stay at your website for before leaving) then compress your images to be below that.

The Sales Funnel

Following from the last post, where I shared the marketing funnel that I have planned this year. And to follow a PROVEN system that blows all the other models out of the sky.

Let me explain!!!

This post is a little long, but stick around because there is some really great content here… So don’t miss it

If you’re in the business of selling information products, then you know that you have to find out what people want in your marketplace, and then basically create a product that solves that urgent solution and then sell it to them, easy right

Well you would yet again find out what people wanted, and then sell it to them again.

And you end up going around in this circle that repeats itself again, and again till you end up with 5, 10, or 20 products that solve different solutions, and end up requiring allot of your time driving traffic to all these products.

Now lots of marketers are doing this exact system, and that’s great, and are making lots of money doing it too.

BUT the problem with that model is that you end up spending all your time in product development, and not so much time on the marketing side, and not focusing on requiring news leads and turning those leads into customers, and then into repeat customers that enter your continuity programs and buy your high back end products that increase in price and value.

You can’t do that because you are always creating content like, new EBooks, new videos etc to sell to them…

You see people are using the basic business model every time which is:

  • Find a group of people that have an urgent problem and are willing to spend money for it
  • And then they create a product that solves that problem
  • Then they package that product in a way that it converts into sales.
  • Then drive traffic to the sales page and repeat the process over and over again

This is a great way to make money online, and I see so many people doing it, and that’s fantastic…

BUT what if there were a better way to create products that increases in value and creating systems that give you leverage and scale in your business

Now it’s hard if you’re a one man team, to keep creating these products, and not doing much marketing as well not having checklists, and processes in your business that make you can step away from your business and give you extra time doing marketing.

So instead of creating product after product you want focus on going deeper not wider, and creating a sales funnel instead.

So what do I mean…?

Well with a sales funnel, you have 1 entry point to your sales funnel – and that is your squeeze page and then you have another entry point to your low price high value product, which then goes to your continuity program. And through to your high value back end products that increase in value and price.

The Sales Funnel

And instead of spending your entire time creating product after product and driving all your traffic to your 10 products that you never had time to test, track, and do more marketing to those 10 or more different products. You now just drive all your traffic to 1 sales funnel.

So all the people that opt-in went to 1 special offer, and then went to your other special offers that increased in value and price

if the people didn’t buy your product, then they get put on what’s called a auto responder follow-up sequence where they  start to receive some really cool content, that drive them back in your sales funnel and to buy your low price high value product.

if they bought that product and didn’t enter your continuity program then guess what they get put on another auto responder sequence for your continuity program until they join that and when they joined that you then offer your high ticked back end products.

Now by refining that 1 sales funnel you can increase your conversions, your retention rates and spend more time at refining that 1 sales funnel and making it better. than spending all your time driving traffic and tracking, and testing and so on, on 10 different sales pages, that don’t connect and are all over the Internet where they can’t be reached.
